Battlefield 2042: Open Beta Update: NOW ON! Update: Gone away :(

Original Story: 6th October 2021 The Battlefield 2042 Open Beta has finally been announced to take place in early October 2021. Following the delay and pushback of the release date of Battlefield 2042, which is on-form with DICE at the helm and EA in charge of publishing. We are well used to these delays at this point. However an unforeseen consequence of the release date delay is that the pre-announced September Beta for BF2042 simply didn’t happen. Much to the disappointment of Battlefield veterans and new players alike. Not the best thing for publicity for what needs to be a major success of a title to save the DICE reputation.

The Open Beta now takes place between the 8th and 9th of October 2021. However not really, as of course it has to be more complicated than that. We have since found out that people who have either pre-ordered the game or have been invited by EA, or have purchased a code for Early Access to the beta only, will get to play the Open Beta two days earlier than the general public on the 6th October 2021. But the fun doesn’t stop there, it has since been leaked that the beta will be going on into the 10th of October 2021 too, how far in, in what timezones, nobody really knows till it happens. So in full, the Battlefield 2042 Open beta is set to kick off on the 6th October 2021 for those with Early Access to the Beta, and then on the 8th October 2021, the rest of the world gets to join in for a couple of days before the 10th October 2021 beta shutdown. Phew.

In terms of content for the Open Beta, it has so far been confirmed that we will have just one map to play on and that will be Orbital, the same map that featured in the previously closed Technical Alpha playtest for which we were all under a NDA. So for people who got to try out the Technical Alpha, it will be good to be able to have a direct comparison between Technical Alpha and Open Beta. But still, one map is a little bit of a disappointment. So too is the fact that we will get to play only one gamemode in the Open Beta, but at least it is the Battlefield stable of ‘Conquest’.

The thing that veteran Battlefield players seem to think is that the Open Beta is taking place very close to the scheduled release date of the game which is currently set for the 19th of November 2021, which is in itself pretty late into the year for a Battlefield launch. But the dates of the Open Beta and release of the game has a lot of people questioning what exactly could be changed based upon player feedback between the Open Beta and the full release of the game. This has some people in the community believing that the Open Beta might be an older version of what the game is currently like. But we will have to wait and see if this is the case or not on the 6th October 2021.

I will be for sure playing the Open Beta as much as I possibly can, and I will be capturing all the way so I hope to get some videos out to the still empty Gamemeh YouTube Channel while the Beta is still ongoing to see if perhaps I can convince any of the guys at UselessGamers to download it and give it a go.
